The Cumberland Amateur Radio Club (CARC) will conduct a Special Event operation using call sign K3IEC on Saturday August 24, 2024. The operations will begin as early as 0000 UTC and continue as late as 2359 UTC, twenty-four hours later.

The Special Event celebrates the return of the National Railway Historical Society annual convention to Harrisburg, PA. The convention takes place Monday August 26 through Saturday August 31, 2024.

The National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) was founded in 1935 and currently has over 13,000 members dedicated to preserving railroad history and educating people about the history of railroads. One of the primary events is the annual convention. The NRHS convention was last held in Harrisburg in 1984. One of the highlights of NRHS conventions has always been excursions, often “rare mileage”: trips on lines without regular passenger service.

Stations that work the K3IEC Special Event station can obtain a unique QSL card in keeping with the mission of the National Railway Historical Society — Dedicated to preserving railroad history and educating people about the history of railroads.
