Status Update — Thursday August 29, 2024
Thank you to the many stations that succeeded in working Special Event Station K3IEC. Without your participation this Special Event would not have been possible.
Results — Our ten Operators worked and logged 435 Stations on CW, SSB, FT8, PSK31, as well as a handful of local stations on two-meter FM Simplex.
Your paper QSL Cards have been arriving at the home our QSL Manager — KB3PQT.
He intends to work on reviewing the incoming cards and our logs after Labor Day.
He has a bit of work on his to-do list involving how to make labels for the valid contacts.
The man has a daytime job, so it might be the weekend (September 7-8) when he gets underway.
Our QSL Card Printer (kb3ifhqslcards.com) printed and delivered our order. We have the cards.
eQSLs have been arriving at our eQSL.cc account in-box. We uploaded our log to eQSL.cc. We are researching a couple of unmatched contacts.
Honoring the National Railway Historical Society Convention
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania August 26 through August 31, 2024
The railroad-rich area of Harrisburg, PA will be the venue for the 2024 NRHS National Convention.
During our visit to southeastern Pennsylvania, we’ll be spending six fun-filled days exploring historic museums, current railroad operations and other sites of interest.
The 2024 Convention dates are Monday, August 26 through Saturday, August 31 in Harrisburg, PA.
We hope to see you in 2024 in Pennsylvania.
Planned events include a Members Reception as well as visits to the Strasburg Rail Road Museum and the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, the East Broad Top Railroad and the Rockhill Trolley Museum, the Reading & Northern Railroad, the Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad and the Northern Central Railway of York, Advisory Council and Board of Directors meetings as well as evening seminars.
CARC Editor’s Note: Portions of the brief introduction, shown above, were copied from the NRHS Convention Planning booklet: https://nrhs.com/convention/
Portions of the NRHS heritage information, shown below, were copied from the NRHS website “About Us” page.
Nobody questions the importance of our railways to the history of America, and yet our shared legacy is being threatened by rust, dust, the passage of time and neglect. With its roots in the past and its eyes on the future, the NRHS is transforming rail preservation in the U.S.
The National Railway Historical Society supports train, railway and station preservation projects with hundreds of thousands of dollars awarded in Heritage Grants, as well as education, photographic archives, events, publishing, standards definition and shared resources. The NRHS is a non-profit section 501(c)(3) organization, and contributions are tax-deductible.
The NRHS was founded in 1935 by a group of rail historians. It has since grown from 40 founding members to include over 13,000 men and women of all ages and professions in every state and many foreign countries, making it the nation’s largest rail preservation and historical society.
For additional information about the National Railway Historical Society I invite you to visit their website: https://nrhs.com

Some club members will operate using call sign K3IEC from our picnic location in a township park.

Setup begins 1300 UTC September 21. (9:00 a.m. local time)
Take-down may occur beginning about 2100 UTC September 21. (3:00 p.m. local time) A lot depends on the attendees. And their attendance depends a lot on the weather.
Sunset is 2306 UTC. We must vacate the park before sunset.
Club Members expressed interest in having a TALK-IN station at the picnic location.
If you are in the vicinity of Franklintown / Dillsburg, Pennsylvania this Talk-In Station may be of interest to you.
146.520 MHz is the National Calling Frequency. It is a frequency that everyone knows.
If you call on this frequency please establish contact and then agree to move to a nearby simplex frequency.
146.490 MHz is often used by the Cumberland Amateur Radio Club and its nets operating FM Simplex. This is not a repeater. No offset. No tone.
Either way, I look forward to seeing you on the radio.
